Brigadier General Joseph Nunoo-Mensah, former Chief of Defense Staff of the Ghana Armed Forces, revealed he was the chief architect of the 1978 coup d'état, which saw the overthrow of the government of Ignatius Kutu Acheampong.
According to him, his training thought that the military hierarchy was misguided because, as a military officer, his mandate was not to govern Ghana, but to defend it.
"When General Acheampong took power and we found that things were not going as planned, I was one of those who had removed him from power," he said. he declared with a smile.
He added that the coup d'etat had not been committed maliciously but to put Ghana on the right track, because the country was misguided.
General Nunoo-Mensah, who was speaking at the third round of revolutionary conferences on the occasion of the June 4 uprising, said that June 4 was not a coup, but the anger of the young military officers to their superior.
As a senior officer at that time, General Nunoo-Mensah stated that he was also the target of 4 June although he understands the anger of his juniors.
"Today, you are walking around Ghana and see a lot of things that will make you angry and nobody seems to care," he said.
