Former President John Dramani Mahama
Inusah Fuseini, MP for Tamale Central at the National Democratic Congress (NDC), said he would work for the victory of former President John Dramani Mahama in 2020, despite his decision to withdraw from parliament.
The legislator announced that he would no longer seek to be re-elected in 2020 after several years in the service of the legislature on the NDC's list of candidates.
At the closing of the nominations, on Friday, July 12, 2019, three people had chosen forms to participate in the Tamale Central constituency.
They are Ibrahim M. Murtala, Hanan Gundadow and Alhaji Alhbadan Adam.
Inusah Fuseini, one of the NDC's most prominent members in Parliament, became a member of Parliament in a by-election in 2006 after the departure of outgoing MP Wayo Seini from the NDC to the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
This sparked a by-election in the Tamale Central constituency on April 4, 2006, won by Inusah Fuseini.
It successfully held its seat in 2008 with 66% of the votes cast and maintained its seat in 2012 with 61% and in 2016 with 60% of the votes cast.
He had previously announced that he was not going to participate in the primaries.
"I've already informed the party that I would not be available for 2020. I informed the party and asked them to put together a team to find a replacement and so I can say that my decision was not made. is not sudden, "he said.
However, his decision not to dispute the siege was described as a blow to the party since it is part of the experienced hands of the Ghanaian parliament.
But in commenting on the concerns raised, the lawmaker stated that the fact that he was not contesting the siege yet did not mean that he would not work for the party.
Mr Fuseini said he would work for the party to make sure that party wins the 2020 elections.
"I did not resign from the party; it does not mean I will not work for the party. I will do some party work because I believe in the vision of former President John Dramani Mahama, I believe in his potential. I know the ideologies of the party and I believe in its ideologies. So I will work for Mahama and support her ideals. I will not go to Parliament anymore but I decided to dedicate myself to Mahama's victory. I will devote my time and resources to former President John Dramani Mahama, "he said.
He believes that a new person should be chosen to bring to the company some new energies, experience and dynamism.
However, he quickly added that he had the opportunity to return to Parliament one day, "but for now, I'm not going to Parliament."
