The newly ducked Yaa-Naa of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Abukari Mahama II, has promised to serve his people diligently and to be fair to all.
Ya-Naa Abukari, 42nd overlord of Dagbon, said that he would strengthen good friendly relations within Dagbon as well as neighboring communities in order to prevent further conflict.
The new Yaa-Naa was inaugurated on Friday, January 25, 2019 during a colorful ceremony that took place on the forecourt of Gbewaa Palace.
The investiture followed the completion of the last funeral rites of two former lords of the Dagbon kingdom, who had been delayed as a result of long-running chieftaincy disputes.

Context of Dagbon conflicts
Although tensions between leaders in Dagbon have existed since the 1960s, the horrific murder of Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II in March 2002 in a coordinated attack on the palace has plunged Dagbon into years of intermittent violence.
Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II was dismembered and his head parade on a spear after the murder that shocked the country.
The attackers also killed 39 of his elders.
Since the death of Ya Naa Yakubu Andani II, hundreds of lives have been lost and properties destroyed during the secular conflict in Dagbon.
In the face of escalating tensions, former President Kufuor has set up the Otumfuo Committee of Eminent Leaders so that he uses all the usual means available to settle the matter.
The Committee has managed to hail the royal gates of Abudu and Andani to engage in the road map for peace despite several failures of the talks.
This led to the completion of the funeral rites of the two late Ya Naas; Naa Mahamadu Abdulai and Naa Yakubu Andani.
The funeral of the late Yaa Naa Yakubu Andani II took place on Friday, January 18, 2019, while Yoo Naa of the time, Alhaji Abubakari Mahama, had been chosen by the royal guardians of Dagbon as the new Yaa-Naa.
Abukari Mahama was competing with four others, including Dagbon Regent, Kampakoya Naa Abdulai Andani Yakubu, Bolin Lana Mahamadu Abdulai and Tampion Lana.
