Maurice Ampaw
Maurice Ampaw, a controversial lawyer, vowed not to hand over a Menzgold vehicle to the Office for Combating Organized and Economic Crime (EOCO).
The private lawyer is currently in possession of a Toyota Land Cruiser Prado vehicle owned by a distressed gold dealer.
This despite the fact that EOCO obtained a court order to freeze all badets, accounts and other related activities owned by Nana Appiah Mensah, CEO of Menzgold.
Addressing Accra-based Neat FM, Mr. Ampaw admitted that the car in question was in his possession, while claiming to have acquired it by lawful means.
He explained that he had invested 4 million GHc in Menzgold and that he would only give up the car to EOCO if the gold distribution company repaid his money back to him.
"Yes, I have the car owned by Menzgold, but the question is how did I get that car?"
"When Menzgold's problems started, I officially wrote to them that I needed my investment or that I was dragging them to court. They replied that they had difficulty raising funds. The Prado cruiser as a privilege until they pay me back, "he said.
"I do not even use this car; I have so many cars that I use. If EOCO wants to know, I am not Shatta Wale to whom the car was offered for free, I am an investor. I will not give them the car today or forever until I get my money back. "
"EOCO should stop this propaganda, I'm the master in this game. They should instead learn the law and know what a privilege," Ampaw said.
Meanwhile, Menzgold's CEO, Nana Appiah Mensah, is being sought after an arrest warrant has been issued by a circuit court in Accra.
The arrest warrant follows Menzgold's failure to repay the investments of the injured clients who have their money blocked from the gold distribution company.
