The daughter of former Ivorian President Laurent Gbagbo has revealed that she will not follow in her father’s footsteps.
In an interview on Joy FM’s Great morning show, Marie-Patrice Gbagbo said, although her family is in politics, it is not something she would like to pursue.
“No. No, I won’t go into politics. No, thank you,” she said bluntly.
She told host Benjamin Akakpo that her older brother, Michel Gbagbo, is the only one of seven children to follow in the former president’s footsteps.
“My older brother is still in Côte d’Ivoire. In fact, he was elected in the last parliamentary elections as a deputy from one of the main cities of Abidjan, Yopougon, ”she said.
She also indicated that her twin sister, Marie-Laurence, is also a strong advocate for the same cause.
Recounting her experience of living as the first family in Côte d’Ivoire, Marie-Patrice said the family had to withdraw from all political activities.
“Always remember that you have to be quiet about what you do. Remember, you shouldn’t cause a scandal for the family. Always remember this family first, unity first and family stability first, ”explains Marie-Patrice.
She added that while staying away from any political activity, the rest of the family were doing their best to support the former president and former first lady in office.
“But we always make sure we’re not there either. Growing up in a family like this you are all for the course, ”she said.
