Khama Billiat is leaving Kaizer Chiefs and is about to make a sensational return to Mamelodi Sundowns?
This is the question of several million rand on the lips of the American footballer as speculation continues to bind furiously Chiefs striker to return to Sundowns barely 12 months after joining Amakhosi Brazilians free transfer.
The high-level talks are at an advanced stage and an announcement should soon be made to confirm a sensational transfer that has divided the opinion between Chiefs fans and Sundowns fans.
The Sundowns apparently presented a multi-million rand package to bring Zimbabwe ace back to Chloorkop and the Brazilians softened the offer by suspending several players as part of the bid.
But despite fierce speculation reaching its peak on Thursday, Billiat's agent, Michael Ngobeni, insisted he was in the dark about the impending decision.
Ngobeni acknowledged that "even if the leaders and the Sundowns were negotiating behind the scenes," he would not come to the table until after the two sides had agreed.
"If they're discussing the move, then I do not have to know it.
"I can only know more, say," if they may agree on something.
"Then I will come to talk to my player," said Ngobeni.
"But if they talk about the possibility of concluding this agreement, it has nothing to do with me and I do not have to know it.
"Unless there is a movement going on, I have to be there."
Speculation continued to grow on Thursday and the Chefs have signed only four players so far (the transfer window closes on August 31), collecting the transfer fees of Billiat and also acquiring quality players who have struggled to carve out a regular place in the rankings. The Sundowns team would make perfect sense for Amakhosi.
The leaders will begin their fifth year without winning silver in the coming weeks and their hopes rest on Billiat and other new recruits pulling all their strength.
But it is always unthinkable that Amakhosi denies an opportunity to profit from a player that he recruited for free last June and the opportunity to add quality players to his ranks.
On the other hand, a return to Sundowns could split the locker room of Chloorkop.
If the move occurs, it could potentially create a break in the exchange room because Billiat would come back on a big money shot and would likely become the most rewarding player in South Africa.
Billiat should lead the charge for the leaders of the Black Label Cup Carling Saturday against Orlando Pirates at the FNB stadium.
The kickoff is at 15h.
