IBM has signed a major contract with AT & T in the cloud for "billions" of dollars.
The company announced Tuesday that it has signed a multi-year contract with AT & T allowing the carrier to host its business applications on the IBM cloud.
An IBM spokesperson confirmed to CNBC that the multibillion dollar deal would "extend over several years", but did not specify the exact value of it. agreement or time limit.
The partnership marks the first transaction publicly announced by IBM since the closing of its acquisition of the $ 34 billion Red Hatt open source software company last week. In October, IBM announced that it would acquire all of Red Hat's shares for $ 190 each, representing the largest transaction ever made by IBM.
As part of the agreement announced Tuesday, AT & T will use Red Hat's open source platform to manage workloads and applications and "better serve" business customers. AT & T and IBM will also partner to develop "state-of-the-art computing platforms" that leverage 5G networks and Internet-connected devices.
