Businessman and brother of former President of Ghana John Dramani Mahama, Ibrahim Mahama who sued and obtained a libel judgment against Ernest Owusu Bempah, the communications manager of Ghana Gas Company Limited withdrew the last 60 weighings on the party communicator’s account, MyNewsGh can confirm.
This comes after the National Investment Bank was ordered by the court to pay GH ¢ 310,000 into Owusu Bempah’s account. However, the bank issued a check with a face value of GH ¢ 107,000 on Ernest Owusu Bempah’s account.
Pursuant to an order from the bank that the account be less than GH ¢ 310,000, it should be emptied, the bank was forced to add the last 60 remaining weighings to the account.
With the payment of 107,000 GH ¢ plus 60 pesewas of 310,000 GH ¢, Owusu Bempah now has 202,999.40 GH ¢ pesewas to pay Mr. Ibrahim Mahama for defaming him.
Momo and Tema House account
While unprecedented, MyNewsGh understands that Ibrahim Mahama’s lawyers are looking at options in the law to empty Ernest Owusu Bempah’s Mobile Money account to settle the debt.
The legal team are determined to frustrate the ruling party’s main communicator, as they are also investigating beneficial ownership of a lavish 3-bedroom house in which Owusu Bempah lives after denying ownership.
“The assertion that I, Ernest Owusu Bempah, beg Ibrahim Mahama to settle the matter behind closed doors is false and highly defamatory,” Ernest Bempah wrote.
“Again, the claim that I have a house in Tema and that it is being sold to cover the cost of damage is also false. I do not own any property in Tema and such fiction can only come from the imagination of a deceived mind, ”he added.
Meanwhile, Ernest Owusu Bempah announced a decision to take the case to the Supreme Court of Ghana after losing the appeal he filed last year.
