Mauro Icardi scored in his first appearance at Inter Milan in almost two months to help his team extend their lead to third place with a 4-0 win in Serie A against Genoa at 10 on Wednesday.

Argentina had not participated in the ceremony since it was dismissed as a captain on February 13 as contract renewal talks were extended.

Icardi first stated that he could not play due to a knee problem, before resuming training last week after negotiations between his lawyer and the club.

Roberto Gagliardini opened the scoring in the first period before Icardi won and converted a penalty kick after Genoa defender Cristian Romero was sent off.

The former captain of Inter then prepared Ivan Perisic for the third time in the second half and Gagliardini scored his second goal of the night to complete the rout. The result leaves Inter four points ahead of AC Milan, fourth, while Genoa remains 12th out of 33 points.
