Head of the Pediatric Oncology Unit at Korle Bu University Hospital, Dr Lorna Renner, described Christ Temple’s annual support of the International Central Gospel Church to the Childhood Cancer Unit as a gesture saving.
Since 2011, more than 1,500 children have benefited from annual church support for unity.
In 2020, the church donated 200,000 GHC to the center. More than 200 children have benefited from the donation made to support the treatment of children with cancer.
On Wednesday, the church again donated 200,000 GH ¢ per unit.
Presenting the amount, the wife of the General Overseer, Ms. Joy Otabil, said the joy of the church was to learn that many of the children who had received the financial support had fully recovered and were leading productive lives.
“It is our prayer that in addition to improving the health care of children with cancer, this gesture will strengthen the faith of children and their families and medical personnel,” she said.
Ms Otabil explained that the donated amount was generated by Christ Temple’s annual charity program dubbed Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh, held on December 24, 2020.
She also took the opportunity to thank everyone who was able to donate to the course.
Receiving the amount on behalf of the hospital, Dr Renner said the donation saved the life of the hospital due to the novel Corona virus which affected lives and businesses.
She revealed that the amount received last year was spent on purchasing medicines, PPE, payment for cancer treatments for children, among others. “For the first time, we treated more than 200 patients last year. Without the support of the ICGC last year, the plight of many children could have been worse, ”she said.
Dr Renner said this year’s donation will go a long way in helping the children who will also come for treatment this year.
The donation is part of several social intervention projects in which ICGC has been involved since its creation.
