In the past, criminals have stolen their identities many times and used the data to create false misleading accounts, for example, to trick students into making false promises.
Automated fraud
For individuals, theft of identity has become a mbad phenomenon. The innocence of many users in the use of data guarantees criminals an easy game. "The theft of identity is automated," says Thomas Uhlemann, security expert at ESET. "Scripts look for appropriate profiles on social media platforms, without any human intervention, and then capture personal images and account information," Uhlemann continues. Tips against identity theft
Some measures allow users to protect themselves against misuse of their identity. For Uhlemann, a security expert is much easier for individuals than for celebrities: "Influential people must make their profile public, individuals have a choice." It therefore strongly recommends users to set their own profile in the settings of social network accounts on "private". This effectively prevents strangers from seeing or even stealing images and account information.
In addition, the ESET Expert recommends that you use a new email address every time you log on for the first time on a platform. This has two important advantages: On the one hand, no one can spy on this address with other information on the network. On the other hand, it is not possible to connect to other platforms because the address has only been used once.
