Although the next opus of the franchise "Suicide Squad" is rushing forward with the addition of Idris Elba to the team, the film will now advance without one of its main characters.
Although it was previously announced that Elba would replace Will Smith as Deadshot in the new photo, the sources say Variety that all parties, including director James Gunn, have decided to move from the character of Deadshot to Elba, who plays a new character in "The Suicide Squad".
Warner Bros. did not comment on the decision.
It is not known which character would play Elba now, but after spending the last few weeks discussing, all participants felt that it was the right choice. The team also did not want to feel disrespectful to Smith, who had helped bring this character to life for the first time, replacing him with Elba. While many believe that the chances of return are slim, the decision leaves Smith with the opportunity to return to future films, as his primary reason for leaving was related to programming and not to differences in creativity.
Variety In February, Warner Bros and Gunn decided to add Elba to the team after the director and the actor sat a few days after Smith's departure. The meeting went so well that the Elbe agreed to join the next installment on the spot, but even then, the fact that he was playing Deadshot or a brand new member of the team was not immutable.

Gunn is recruiting the remaining members of the team and production is expected to begin in the fall. The film should be sung on August 6, 2021.
The original "Suicide Squad" – starring Smith, Jared Leto and Robbie – has become a huge box office sensation when it was theatrically released in 2016, achieving a worldwide turnover of 746 million of dollars.
