The opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) denied allegations that it was planning to kill a journalist from the multimedia group.

A statement released by the party’s deputy communications official, Godwin Ako Gunn, called the assertions of Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong scandalous.

The party criticized the MP, saying that he was allegedly mentioned as a suspect in the murder of the late JB Danquah Adu.

The NDC also noted that Mr. Agyapong who sat on national television to threaten the late Ahmed Suale was not arrested.

“In addition, this same Kennedy Agyepong publicly threatened the late investigative journalist Mr. Ahmed Hussein-Suale with injury and death, before his murder in cold blood by killers who have not yet been apprehended.”

PRESS RELEASE
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

September 4, 2021.

Our attention has been drawn to a video circulating on social media which contains outlandish allegations made by Mr. Kennedy Ohene Agyepong, Member of Parliament for Assin Central on his own Oman FM, in which he claims that the National Democratic Congress is considering harming and kill a reporter from Joy FM.

In the video, Mr. Agyepong is heard to say that he has information about the plan allegedly drawn up by the NDC. He also refers to a supposed NDC meeting in which the said crime was hatched.

We wish to categorically state that these claims by Kennedy Agyepong are completely baseless, malicious, contrived, and to say the least irresponsible. No such meeting has been organized by the National Democratic Congress, or by any party agent or proxy for that matter, at which the subject of murder or criminal assault on a journalist was discussed. The NDC, as a political party, never approves and will never approve of any criminal plan aimed at harming a citizen, let alone killing a journalist.

We wish to remind Ghanaians that this is not the first time that Mr. Kennedy Agyepong has been associated with disturbing killings in modern Ghanaian history. Ghanaians will recall that Kennedy Agyapong was mentioned by the prime suspect in the ill-fated murder of a sitting MP, the Hon. JB Danquah Adu as a key prop to crime. Interestingly, his own media statements on this point indicate a very close knowledge of the circumstances surrounding this crime.

In addition, the same Kennedy Agyepong publicly threatened the late investigative journalist Mr. Ahmed Hussein-Suale with injury and death, before his assassination in cold blood by killers who have not yet been apprehended.

As if that weren’t enough, a few months ago this same despicable, irresponsible and dishonorable MP threatened Joy FM’s Erastus Asare Donkor after he appeared before the Ejura Commission of Inquiry to testify on matters pertaining to his personal knowledge of the horror of the murder. Ibrahim Mohammed, also known as Kaaka by some unknown assailants, and the state sponsored killings of (3) other Ejura youths in the aftermath.

One would have expected Kennedy Agyepong to have been arrested for helping police investigate and prosecute these heinous crimes. Unfortunately, the nonchalance of President Akufo-Addo and our law enforcement agencies in the face of irresponsible and criminal comments, and in some cases the overt complicity of this dishonorable deputy encouraged him to engage in more reckless and criminal acts. with shameless impunity.

As we take the opportunity to vehemently deny the spurious and ridiculous allegation and call on Ghanaians to take Mr. Agyepong’s latest allegation with a pinch of salt, we call on the targeted journalist to report the allegation to the police and to take all necessary precautions to preserve his precious life. This is particularly critical given the fate that befell his colleague, the late Ahmed Hussein-Suale, when he became the object of his media tirades and threats. Obviously, the Frankenstein monster at the nuclear power plant is once again on the prowl for blood. We therefore urge all well-meaning Ghanaians to be vigilant to prevent his bloodthirsty antics from manifesting again.

For our part, as a responsible political party, we will officially report this matter to the police and to our diplomatic partners and foreign missions. Ghanaians are tired of the antics and irresponsible comments and actions of Mr. Kennedy Agyapong.

We wish to reiterate the assurance of the NDC to all Ghanaians and journalists that we are a party that believes in pluralism and tolerance of the media. In any case, the NDC does not participate or accept its resources to become complicit in criminal activity.

Godwin i gunn
Deputy National Communications Officer, NDC
