The National Security Coordinator, the Inspector General of Police and the Attorney General have been sued by Mordernghana.com publisher, Emmanuel Ajarfor.
Ajarfor sued the human rights division of the High Court for violation of his right to individual liberty, fair trial and human dignity, following his arrest the month last by National Security agents.
Mr Adjarfor was arrested last month at his office, along with a journalist, Emmanuel Yeboah Britwum, for what security officials had claimed to be linked to cybercrime.
The two men were detained for two days before being released, but were reportedly tortured by national security agents. Emmanuel Yeboah Britwum has since denied having ever been tortured.
The controversial arrest and surrounding circumstances have since sparked calls for an independent investigation, with the Ghana Journalists Association condemning in particular the arrest and alleged torture.
The prosecution in the High Court seeks to obtain orders against the Attorney General to prosecute police officers suspected of torturing Mr. Ajarfor, handing him all the objects seized and obtaining compensation, according to a report monitored by Citi News.
Ajarfor's lawyers, Samson Lardy Anyenini, also alluded to civil lawsuits against the perpetrators of the illegal, unconstitutional and criminal conduct.
