The Inspector General of Police (IGP), David Asante-Apeatu, and the head of the CID, Maame Tiwaa Addo Danquah, will be appearing today in court to respond to allegations of contempt that They brought against their refusal to comply with Gregory Afoko's bail order.
Police refused to release Gregory Afoko, the alleged murderer of Adams Mahama, former president of the PNP, despite an order from the High Court on March 20, 2019, ordering him to release him.
The IGP and the head of the CID are accused of the police's decision to overturn the court's decision to release Gregory Afoko, which led the suspect to spend more than 120 days in pre-trial detention.
The charge of contempt of court against the two chiefs of police was to be heard on July 3, 2019, but was postponed until today, July 22, 2019.
The case was adjourned because the representatives of the IGP and the head of the CID had moved out of the jurisdiction and therefore could not be brought to justice.
Judge Jennifer Dodoo, hearing the case, has already issued an order to the police to produce Gregory Afoko to execute bail.
His decision on Monday will be one of two parts of the bond issue, as an appeal by Attorney General Gloria Akuffo is still pending before the Court of Appeal.
