IGP promises to deal with thieves terrorizing residents of Asante Mampong | General news

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Mr. David Asante Apeatu, said the police would react ruthlessly to armed robbers terrorizing the lives of commuters in the divisional command of Asante Mampong.

He added that the police were determined to secure the roads of this enclave for traders and other road users, who became vulnerable targets for road bandits.

The IGP, which has held meetings with the leaders and residents of Mampong, Ejura and Sekyedumase, has said that it will make thieves more difficult and uncomfortable to continue these harmful acts.

"My office adopts effective and innovative strategies to combat the threat," he said.

Mr. Asante-Apeatu was in the region as part of his working visit to selected districts of the country to learn first-hand the challenges his men face on the ground, in order to solve them in an appropriate way.

Accompanied by the Director General of Operations, Police Commissioner (COP), Mr. George Alex Mensah, Deputy Police Commissioner (DCOP) Mensah Duku, Regional Commander Ashanti and other senior officers, IGP made a stop at Mampong Scarp, where he inspected the police station facilities.

He then went to the headquarters staff of the division, after which he visited the leaders of Mampong, Ejura and Sekyedumase to solicit their support in the fight against crime in these areas. .

The constant attacks of armed robbers on the highways largely dominated the concerns of people who called on the IGP to take swift action to remedy the situation.

They blamed the lack of adequate personnel and vehicles for frequent highway patrols, allowing thieves to exploit this visible weakness.

In response to these concerns, Mr. Asante-Apeatu badured them that more staff would be badigned to the different stations of the division as soon as possible.

He badured that the staff would have sufficient means in vehicles, among others, to enable them to tackle the threat of armed robbery head-on.

Chief Superintendent Wisdom Lavoe, Division Commander, also reiterated the lack of personnel and logistics, and emphasized the need for swift action to save lives and preserve the property of road users.

He added that, thanks to the creation of a police station in Mampong Scarp, where the thieves were concentrated, they turned to Ejura Scarp and badured the IGP that there was no police station. they could only win the fight if the necessary personnel and logistics were provided. .

He advocated the decentralization of road patrols because they were on the ground and knew all areas exposed to theft.

He complained that the situation in which patrol teams deployed at the regional and national levels had not been really helpful.
