Manchester City is ready to lose Ilkay Gundogan free next summer if he does not sign a new deal with the triple winners.
Gundogan has not agreed to new terms with City, despite 12 months of talks, but remains confident that the German midfielder will promise his future to Etihad.
They plan to continue negotiations with Gundogan's camp in the next two weeks and are relaxed about the situation of his contract.
City officials have talked to Pep Guardiola and decided not to pay him this summer, as their usual policy dictates, even if he can not leave for anything in 12 months at the end of his contract.
Three years ago, City paid Borussia Dortmund £ 20 million for Gundogan. He believes that his value will be profitable, even if he ends up going on a Bosman next summer.
Gundogan, 28, keeps his options open as he has not always been a regular starter in his three seasons at City.
He made 36 starts over the historic Premier League, FA Cup and League Cup successes, in part because of injuries to Fernandinho and Kevin De Bruyne.
Gundogan believes his chances could be limited next season and that his chances of leaving could be compromised if Rodrigo, of City, has landed on Atlantico Madrid, which is aiming for a new midfielder this summer.
Rodrigo 's release clause at Atlético amounts to just under £ 62 million, or £ 70 million, and he has four years left on his contract.
Atletico is aware of the growing interest in Rodrigo and wants to reward the 22-year-old Spanish international with a new contract for his impressive first season.
Rodrigo has made 46 appearances in all competitions for Atletico this season, scoring twice, and the Spaniards are desperate to keep their young star coming.
