The monitoring team of the Interministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) reportedly arrested seven people in connection with illegal mining.

The suspects, including a woman, were arrested on Friday, March 22, 2019 in the Upper Denkyira West District and Nkasim area, near Goaso, in the Ahafo region, as part of two separate operations.

According to a report by Graphic.com.gh, three Ghanaians who supported their operations were also arrested.

The operation, led by the head of the working group, Francis Assibi Abu, also seized several equipment after more than three hours of hideout.

The suspects have since been handed over to the Obuasi police command in the Ashanti region for action to be taken.

Assibi Abu explained that the operation followed a report from some residents. He added that his team had to mobilize quickly to repress them.
