Leader of the minority, Haruna Iddrisu
Haruna Iddrisu, leader of the minority, wants the government to pay particular attention to health workers, especially doctors and morgue workers.
His appeal comes at a time when employees of the morgue threaten to launch a claim against their terms of service.
Contributing to a statement at Workers' Day on Wednesday, he called for greater peace on the labor front.
"Mr. President, when the morgue employees go on strike, they let the bodies break down on the ground, something we have to do about it, including the Ghana Workers' Association, which wants to better service conditions. "
"It can be argued that the parliamentary service you are seeking to improve [their welfare] with the revised terms of service, we need to make it an essential service provider so that tomorrow they do not say that they are also going on strike. There are health workers [too]. Even if we call on them, there are still workers in the GMA [Ghana Medical Association]this government must do well to enforce the codified service conditions we have accepted. "
The Ghana Mortuary Workers' Association (MOWAG) has announced its intention to launch a second nationwide strike, despite a future meeting between the badociation and the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission.
According to the badociation, the strike must show their dissatisfaction with what they describe as the reluctance of the government to respond to their demands.
Earlier this year, workers went on a similar strike to protest poor working conditions and wages.
Addressing Citi News, the Secretary General of the Mortuary Workers Association, Richard Jordan, said the strike would be called after the May Day celebration.
"The strike goes off on May 2nd. Nothing, up to now, indicates that this will not happen. On May 1st, we will come together to celebrate May 1st and the next day we will be away from work. The strike will begin completely. The Fair Wages and Salaries Committee sent us a letter to come to the Commission on Monday for a meeting. We will go to this meeting in good faith, but the strike, according to our decision, continues, "he said.
The morgue workers have been in the news after their numerous calls to the authorities to solve their problems of low wages and poor working conditions.
The badociation canceled a strike it had organized earlier this month on the third day after a meeting with the National Labor Commission, in the hope that their grievances would be met.
They stated that they have seen no progress in the said negotiations, hence the imminent strike.
Do not start the strike, negotiate – MoH
The Ministry of Health badured the badociation last week of plans to improve the salaries and conditions of service of its members.
Although the Ministry of Health has admitted that a job evaluation, a prerequisite for wage increases, may take some time, its public relations officer, Elorm Ametepe, said it would be prudent for workers from the morgue continue the negotiations.
