The health services of Ghana warn that there is an alarming number of young Ghanaian girls who have taken the habit of smoking shisha, a trend that can have serious repercussions on their health.

The Department of Disease Control and Prevention of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) expressed deep concern over the prevalence of young women's indulgence in smoking shisha.

The ministry, according to the report 3news.com preview by YEN.com.ghhave identified girls as young as those in lower secondary school (JHS).

Dr. Kyei Faried, head of the department, said the situation was worrying, saying shisha was harmful to the health of smokers, especially women.

Dr. Faried reportedly said: "Shisha contains tobacco and tobacco contains more than 70 toxic substances and contains nothing good."

According to reports, a new survey shows that one in 50 girls attending college in Ghana smoke chicha, noted Dr. Faried.

Smoking shisha is a way of smoking tobacco, usually scented, through a bowl to which a tube is connected. The tube has a mouthpiece that the smoker uses to breathe smoke.

The trend originates in the Middle East and some parts of Asia, but has recently become more popular in Ghana with youth membership.

Meanwhile, YEN.com.gh According to our information, 3,900 men die each year in Ghana from the harmful consequences of smoking.

Although fewer men smoke in Ghana than on average in high-income countries, more than 425,000 men smoke daily in Ghana.

According to Tobacco Atlas Ghana, 69,200 women smoke cigarettes daily. In the same spirit, 2,700 boys smoke cigarettes every day.
