Due to lax security measures, Android users are already more dangerous than when they use iOS devices. To make matters worse, among the many anti-virus software offered for Android, there are still many black sheep.

According to ESET security researchers, devices from millions of Android users have applications that claim to work as antiviruses. These applications are therefore only legitimate security solutions, but do not protect the mobile device. Malware is often not recognized, but sometimes its presence is falsified. Providers of such apps typically earn their money with advertisements, but here and there, apps would also spy on sensitive user data.
ESET researchers say Google has not taken sufficient action against such applications:
Unfortunately, these supposed antivirus applications are still available in Google Play and have an incredibly high number of installations. Here, fraudsters try to generate profits, including advertising in applications. Ironically, some of these applications are recognized as at least a threat
In the same horn blows a recent study by AV Comparatives market research. Only 80 applications tested out of 250 could operate in a reasonably reliable manner. The vast majority of them are only certified as having a low success rate with a relatively high number of false reports, some of which have themselves been clbadified as malware or at least unreliable or unwanted.
