The boards of governors of 13 colleges of higher education (EC) were inaugurated Wednesday in Accra to strengthen institutions and make the necessary changes to promote higher education in the country.
They included: CoE Jasikan, CoE Peki, Presbyterian Evangelical CoE (Amedzofe), Presbyterian Women's CoE (Aburi), Seventh-day Adventist CoE (Asokore-Kofridua), CoE of Accra, Presbyterian CoE (Akropong), and Ada.
The others are: Komenda CoE, Wiawso CoE, St. Louis CoE, Wesley CoE and Saint Monica's CoE.
Professor Kwesi Yankah, Minister of State for Higher Education in his inaugural address, congratulated the Council of Europe for its commitment and willingness to serve the nation.
He said that the Governing Council, which plays an important role in the decision-making process, was officially the most central strategic body of the institutional level.
Professor Yankah stated that the Governing Council can be considered as an important arena for institutional change and that it is also responsible for quality badurance, efficiency and effectiveness. efficiency.
He added that they were therefore chosen to strengthen the institution as a whole, even if it fulfilled its mandate to promote the change agenda.
The Minister stated that the mandate of the Council was to ensure that the Council of Europe trains students to acquire the professional and academic skills necessary to teach in pre-tertiary institutions and educational institutions. non-formal.
He added that they also needed to strengthen the professional and academic capacities of teachers in post through continuing education.
Professor Yankah said government councils were supposed to comply with the 2012 CoE law (Act847).
The law gives the board the power to approve training programs developed by the academic council in accordance with the college's mandate.
They were also responsible for overseeing the internal organization of the CoE, including the creation, modification and supervision of the academic divisions, departments and faculties of the College.
Again, they had to prescribe the conditions of admission of those selected for a program of studies organized by the College.
They are also responsible for instituting scholarships, scholarship programs that meet the College's objectives, managing finances and capital badets, as well as reviewing and approving annual estimates of revenues and expenditures.
He badured them that the government was determined to pursue major reforms to ensure quality education and, ultimately, improve learning outcomes.
However, he stated that the reforms would be fruitless without involving the teacher, for the simple reason that the teacher was at the center of the education system and facilitated the acquisition of badets. quality learning.
He urged boards of directors to continue to badist the education sector in solving all relevant and topical issues they face.
Eva Haizel, Director of Higher Education, expressed her gratitude to the CoE for having played its role as an effective vector for providing quality education to citizens.
She was optimistic that the inauguration would further strengthen their mandate to accomplish more in the field of higher education.
Bishop Cyril Ben-Smith, Chair of the Board of the Council of Europe of Sainte-Monica on behalf of the Governing Boards and Council members, thanked the Government for the appointments.
He added that the appointments were proof of the government's efforts and were aimed primarily at ensuring access, quality badurance and efficiency in the education sector.
