Sydney Casely-Hayford, a social commentator, decried the rights of the new Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) on issues related to the electoral register.
He noted that it was unfair and unacceptable for the CND to be angry at the Electoral Commission's decision to establish a new voters' register and for the two parties to behave as if the EC was not allowed to do so. anything or rectify the registry.
"They think that they are the only parties allowed to have the electoral register and that they should be consulted before everything is implemented, and I say that it is wrong and unacceptable," he said. deplored Mr. Casely-Hayford.
He said: "At the heart of our whole democracy must be a good register accepted by the citizens, the fact that the CND has formed a political party and that the NPP has formed a political party and channeled the voice of its members. not give them the right to usurp our authority.
"It is the EC that is mandated by the Constitution and by law to change the register of electors, of which Jean Mensa is the president, which should be used to organize elections.
"If she decided to do it and if she had the courtesy to inform you that this is what I am going to do, you have no right to disagree and say that we do not accept that you had to do it.
"The EC's decision on a new electoral register was taken after a meeting of the Inter-party Advisory Committee (IPAC) and made this decision in consultation with the political parties and indicated that the new register would include improvements, the making it worthy of democracy, "said Mr. Casely-Hayford.
In response to the EC announcement, the NDC requested the withdrawal of the EC's press release, insisting that no consensus was reached.
However, Franklin Cudjoe, President of IMANI Africa, said the announcement by the EC of plans to establish a new register of voters for the 2020 general elections was imprudent.
"Presumably, for a big announcement like this one, all parties should participate, it seems like it's a pretty foolish way to communicate a major decision that not everyone has thought about", a- he lamented.
