In India, a seasonal flu epidemic has spread across the country. Hundreds of people have died of the disease so far this year. The Ministry of Health calls on people to remain alert to a possible infection.
The National Center for Disease Control of India said that as of Sunday, 226 people had died and more than 6,700 had been tested positive for H1N1 virus of porcine origin.
The most affected region is the state of Rajasthan, in the north-west of the country, where 85 people have died and more than 2,300 people are infected. The winter was colder than usual, which would have aggravated the epidemic. Local media reported that the Ministry of Health had sent a public health team to Rajasthan to badess the situation and provide badistance.
Hospitals are preparing quarantine areas to prevent the spread of the disease, but now medical staff are also infected.
