The Ghana Health Service (GHS) has tasked the management of all health facilities in the country to initiate response protocols for Ebola virus disease (EVD).

This follows Guinea’s confirmation of at least seven cases of the fatal disease resulting in the deaths of 3.

To ensure the nation is prepared to fight the virus, GHS chief executive Dr Patrick Aboagye on Tuesday called on all regional and district public health emergency management committees to include the disease in Ebola virus on their agenda.

“In addition, regions, districts, health establishments, port health units at all border posts, especially along the western border and at all landing beaches, must strengthen surveillance of the disease at Ebola virus using the standard case definition, ”he said.

The Director-General further advised Ghanaians to practice safety protocols, including regular hand washing, avoiding contact with animals and refraining from eating bushmeat.

“We must take note and remind the general public that under no circumstances should public or private transport be used to transport suspected cases of EVD.

“They should seek support from the district director of health services in the respective districts. Municipalities or metropolises in the transfer of these people to a health establishment, ”he warned.
