The Paris Saint-Germain striker limped Wednesday in Strasbourg in the Coupe de France after suffering a continuous foul.
It was originally feared that Neymar had fractured the same bone as last year.
His previous season ended last February when he fractured his metatarsal, and PSG officials were once again sweating on their form after Wednesday's incident.
In an official statement from PSG after the incident, it was hinted that Neymar had fractured the same bone.
"The first examinations carried out revealed a painful reactivation of the lesion of the fifth right metatarsal", reads the statement.
"The treatment will depend on the evolution of the next few days.
"All therapeutic options must be considered."
It was good news for Manchester United fans, who are preparing to face PSG in the Champions League in February.
However, according to information in France, it could be back in time.
GloboeSporte's reports state that the injury did not affect the screw placed in Neymar's metatarsal.
They add that Neymar will have to wait 10 days before the swelling goes down during treatment.
PSG boss Thomas Tuchel admitted after the match that Neymar was worried about the injury.
"It was a situation where he was fouled three times, one after the other," he said.
"The referee gave nothing. He's twisted his foot.
"Ney is worried because it's the same foot, in the same place."
