Qualification in the Champions League could be the key to the eventual pursuit of Manchester United striker Romelu Lukaku.

Inter are looking to sell Mauro Icardi this summer and want to recruit a high-level striker to replace the Argentinian at San Siro before next season.

The Manchester United striker, Lukaku, has become the first target of Inter, but the club is fully aware of the challenges it would face if it decided to qualify for the Belgian.

Premier League players may not want to let Lukaku go, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is in top form and his salary of 10 million euros a year is also a major hurdle for Inter.

But according to the Italian daily La RepubblicaAccording to Inter, qualifying for the Champions League will make Lukaku a more achievable goal this summer.

Inter is currently third in the standings and the club believes that the additional revenues of the Champions League will give them extra leeway for a player of the caliber of Lukaku.

But they also identified Edin Dzeko, of the Roma community, as a potential plan B if they fail in their pursuit of the Manchester United man.

Lukaku, who has a contract until 2022 with Manchester United, has scored 15 goals under his belt this season.
