The Interim Police Inspector General (IGP), COP James Oppong Boanuh, is expected to arrive in the North Region following the death of a policewoman.

Speak on Ok FM The program "Ade Akye Abia", the PRO of the Northern Regional Police, DSP Mohammed Yussif Tanko, explained that the IGP visit would allow him to receive first hand information on the security situation in the region.

He explained that he would also visit the family of the deceased to sympathize with them.

"The issue of armed robbery is a source of concern for all of us and we have put in place adequate measures to manage the crime rate in the region."

He added that high-level security experts have been brought from Accra to help trace the criminals who perpetrated this macabre act.

Although nothing was done, he was optimistic, the police will find the criminals and bring them to trial.

Lance Corporal Agartha Nana Nabin at the Tamale North Region Police Headquarters was shot dead on Tuesday night by armed robbers in military uniform at a police checkpoint on the Kumbungu road.

The incident occurred at approximately 10:45 pm near the Star Oil grading station when an ash-colored sedan was requested to stop near the checkpoint.

Four occupants, all armed men dressed in military camouflage, "wearing face masks and dessert boots suddenly fell and fired at the dead woman who had killed her instantly.

The other police officer tried to shelter and stumbled. His weapon and that of the deceased were seized by thieves.

The body of the deceased has since been dropped off at the Tamale University Hospital morgue, while the injured policeman is responding to treatment at the same facility.
