Nana Appiah Mensah, aka NAM1
The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has confirmed that the owner of Menzgold Ghana Limited, Nana Appiah Mensah, aka NAM1, was released on bail by a court in Dubai, UAE, but was again arrested by the police in the UAE.
The managing director in charge of the CID, Maame Yaa Tiwaa Addo-Danquah, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP), said at a press conference held in Accra that NAM1 would be handed over to the Ghanaian authorities after the trial in Dubai .
She confirmed that NAM1 was again arrested by the Dubai police on the basis of what she called Interpol's "red alert" at the request of the Ghana police.
DCOP Tiwaa Addo-Danquah told many journalists that the NAM1 bail application was accepted on March 4 by the Dubai police.
"He executed bail on March 24, 2019 and received the release letter on March 25, but was arrested again on the basis of Interpol's red alert at the request of the Ghana police", she said.
The IDC official revealed that NAM1, currently in detention, would be returned to Ghana after the trial.
Prima facie case
It is increasingly apparent that Dubai prosecutors have realized that a prima facie case could not necessarily be established against NAM1 in a $ 51 million gold deal. The court therefore began to "relax" the restrictions imposed on it.
However, thanks to his intervention, Interpol badured that he was still held as a person of interest in other parts of the world, including Ghana.
Nigerian Connection
The authorities in Dubai are reported to be closely following Adetunji Adewoye Olorunfemi, aka Ade, who is reported to be involved in the $ 51 million gold deal for which NAM1 has had problems.
According to the DAILY GUIDE, this Ade would have been placed on the "Checklist" of the Kotoka International Airport (KIA) after the Bureau of National Investigation (BNI) reportedly discovered that he was simultaneously using pbadports Ghanaian and Nigerian.
He would have foiled the security agencies by traveling by road to Nigeria to escape arrest instead of using KIA.
Diplomatic pbadport
A source affirmed between 2012 and 2016, Ade used a Ghanaian diplomatic pbadport although it is not eligible and used the date of birth – January 12, 1976.
Interestingly, in the Ade ECOWAS travel card, he uses the name Ogumtomole Yinka with the date of birth 01-12-1980.
The lawyers of NAM1
NAM1 lawyers made "serious" statements about Ade, especially on social media.
They claimed that the Nigerian was crucial in the $ 51 million gold contract for which the chief executive officer (CEO) of the gold collecting company has been holding in Dubai since 7 December of last year.
They posted travel documents from said Ade on social media.
"Can you imagine he has Ghanaian and Nigerian pbadports … He is the only solution to this NAM problem."
They also said that "this Ade is the reason why NAM1 is being held in Dubai and has not seen the sun for a very long time (four months) … a Nigerian also with Ghanaian and Nigerian pbadports".
