After the surprise release of the title song "A Fine Mess" in January, the trio of New York announced the release of a five-track EP for the programming of its busy summer festival. The latest offer comes with 'The Weekend', another new song following the dark and hoarse mood of the famous 'Marauder' from 2018.

"They're all upbeat rockers," said Paul Banks NME. "These are not opposite sides. These are all pretty rich rock songs with great choruses. That's all we see playing in a club with people dancing. Sometimes, when you turn on an Interpol disc, you expect people to not dance because they come from a more thoughtful or melancholy place. It's a place where rock is at the top. "

With regard to the words of the MOU, Banks continues: "Marauder" was a little more reflective, and this one is more focused on partying by the horns. Maybe the lyrics are a little sneaky and mischievous. There is no shame in that.

This disc, whose release is scheduled for May 17, was recorded with Dave Fridmann at the last break in upstate New York.

"We had the idea that the EP is a separate lot of songs to be part of this whole campaign," said Banks NME. "We have refined the material since then. It's not like "Marauder's songs on EP", it's still supposed to be a separate EP and a full-fledged work.

"It's a good way to interact with fans these days. In hip-hop, they put mixtapes between the discs and this is a good method. We are engaged and active right now, so it's good to double and lengthen the party. "

So, with the group so engaged, will we hear more new material in the near future?

"I do not know if we will enter the world of carrying out a series of PEs," added Banks. "I think it's more likely that we'll do a full album then, but who can say that? We have no concrete projects beyond this EP. "

Among the five new songs, there is "Real Life", which aired in 2017 during the band's 15th anniversary tour, "Turn On The Bright Lights". there is not much left in the safe.

"We may have run out of stores at this point," Banks admitted. "I do not hate the idea of ​​getting all the old material out and cleaning the archives to share that content, but I'm more interested in the new material."

Before selected events and an appearance at Glastonbury in 2019, Interpol's next big British show will perform at The All Points East in London alongside The Strokes and The Raconteurs.

"What a line-up!" Banks said of the concert. "It looks awesome. I'm really excited to play a very big rock bill. With a crowd of festivals, it will be great. No idea what the scene will be. Maybe there will be some shenanigans behind the scenes? Maybe there will be a ping pong table? Fucking shit. If there is an espresso machine, then I am happy. "
