Rivers State’s All Progressives Congress hailed Nigeria’s chief justice for stepping in to stop the drift in the justice system, following indiscriminate sale of restraining orders by judges to politicians.
Party spokesman Leader Ogbonna Nwuke said in his reaction that the decision by the CJN and NBA leadership on forms of judicial abuse came at the right time.
“We believe that the intervention of the CJN and the Nigerian Bar Association on the side of the truth, following the horrific manipulation of justice by members of the political class, has come at the right time.
“Sadly, the Rivers State Judicial Branch and other judicial branches across the country have evolved into malls where dubious and frivolous injunctions are auctioned off at will.
“The invitation sent to certain high-ranking judicial officers by the CJN proved the point that the APC of Rivers State made.
“It’s good that the CJN and the NBA have decided to stop the ease with which some judges descend into the arena of justice.
“For our part, we believe that the urgent measures taken to stop the drift of the Bar and the judiciary are commendable. This noble decision, in our opinion, has been a long time coming.
“The litigators of our system who are used to undermine the political process and desecrate the integrity of the tribunal should note that the game is played.
“There are spotlights everywhere and the recent steps taken by the judiciary to rediscover itself only prove that there is no hiding place for lost judges in the future.
“We hope that all men of good will who care about the future of our great country will support the effort to free the judiciary from the clutches of selfish politicians who wish to truncate democracy.”
