The director of advocacy and political engagement at the Center for Democratic Development has dismissed claims that the new post-election poll organized by CSOs that saw people doubt the government’s ability to protect public funds is being influenced by the propaganda.
Speaking on Top Story, Dr Kojo Asante said the survey results are a true reflection of people’s views on the government of the day.
“It is interesting that Mr. Owusu Mensah, Research Director at the Presidency, said that similar studies have been carried out and the conclusions are similar. So I don’t know if this is propaganda, as far as we know, this is what Ghanaians are saying, ”he told Evans Mensah, host of the show.
He said it is more important at the moment for the government to focus on accepting the results and putting in place measures to allay the concerns of Ghanaians.
His comment comes after post-election research by the Center for Democratic Development (CDD-Ghana) found that the majority of Ghanaians lack confidence in the Akufo-Addo government’s ability to protect financial resources and to fight corruption over the next four years. .
Respondents said they were also less optimistic about the administration’s ability to reduce crime.
Presenting the results on Tuesday, CDD-Ghana research director Dr Edem Selormey noted that a total of 58% of those polled attributed the president’s reduced voting margin to his policy decisions and actions during his first term.
Reacting to the claims of those interviewed during the inquiry, former NPP chairman Peter Mac-Manu, who disagrees, said the government led by Akufo-Addo was on the right track in the fight against corruption in the country.
“If you watch the hubbub that people are talking about, you will be amazed. I mean, look at what people are saying, it means there is so much propaganda that the real work that is going on. This is how I see it from the result and we have to look at the facts rather than the propaganda, ”he said.
However, CDD’s director of advocacy and political engagement said that survey carried out between May and June of this year covered all 16 regions of the country with 2,400 adult respondents.
Mr Asante added that “every Ghanaian has the chance to be selected, and this will normally cover all regions, rural-urban, all the demographic distribution that you have in the national populations, as we have done with many. other surveys in the past. “
He said the selection method is quite random, adding that it gives the government an opportunity to address people’s fears.
“It’s still very early in the second term, and then you can adjust yourself to be able to address the concerns of the population.”
