An NDC MP from the opposition and a NDC national executive shared conflicting views on a letter from their rival political party, the New Patritic Party (NPP), urging the opposition party to a meeting to end the threat of the militias of this party.

Although Peter Boamah Otokunor, deputy secretary general of the NDC, considers the letter to be in bad faith, the deputy of Odododiodoo, Edwin Nii Lantey Vanderpuije, said the letter had been written in good faith.

The NPP wrote to the NDC on Monday under a directive by President Nana Akufo-Addo during her speech on the state of the nation in February.

According to the president, the two parties dominate the political space since the beginning of the fourth republic in 1992 and should be able to dialogue on the dissolution of the groups perpetrating acts of violence, which are affiliated with them.

Peter Otokunor said on Tuesday in a letter to Joy FM news that the NPP's letter to the NDC did not show the necessary commitment in the dialogue on the dismantling of party militias.

He added that if the CWP was engaged, their letter would have indicated the time and place of the meeting instead of leaving the choice of the NDC.

Otokunor also accused the NPP of failing to give in to the initial request of the CND to invite a third party to act as mediator at the meeting of the two.

The letter stated that the initial meeting was to take place and that both parties then decided that the third organizations should participate.

But rejecting this, said Otokunor, "at this first meeting, we should even include stakeholders so that they can effectively control who and who should participate in it …"

On the other hand, Nii Lantey Vanderpuye, a member of the NDC parliament for Odododiodoo, believes that their rival's letter "is in good faith".
