Unable to walk and chew gum at the same time, I have always admired the fact that musicians can play and turn the page on a score without losing the plot.

They may need a little less coordination now thanks to a new application for iPad and a Bluetooth foot switch called BT-105.

The manufacturer Airturn, which is still a prototype, claims that this Bluetooth version of their hands-free automatic page flipping software will be compatible with Bluetooth-enabled computers, including the iPad.

By pressing a foot switch, you move to the next page. If you touch it too early, another key brings the page back. On the demo, the musician operates the switch using a third-party application with a zoom function, moving the partition one half page at a time.

Expect to see this page change application begin at the end of 2010.
