Tehran, Iran – Iran has announced that it has banned Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft from its airspace alongside other countries.
A statement issued Friday by the Ministry of Transport announced the ban.
The decision comes after two fatal accidents involving the model over the past year.
A Boeing Max plane belonging to the Ethiopian Airliner crashed last week and killed the 157 people on board. A previous accident involving the model had killed 189 people in Indonesia five months ago.
Iran itself has no Boeing 737 Max 8 aircraft due to US sanctions imposed for decades.
