Online MBA degrees are becoming increasingly popular as major brand schools enter the market and their numbers grow. For students who do not want to leave their jobs and who need flexibility to find the right balance between their personal and professional lives.
But is an online MBA really worth it? Our own alumni surveys of these programs show an exceptionally high satisfaction of MBA students online, especially as the best schools. At the top of the satisfaction curve, it is common for more than half of students to badign an increase or promotion to work directly to their online program. Even more surprisingly, 40% or more of students say they have completely changed jobs thanks to their online degrees (see Online MBA Programs Providing Excellent Career Outcomes).
If you are in an industry that you really love, if you are with an organization that you feel very comfortable with, but you need to develop more skills, you can consider an online program. a great option for you, "says Idie Kesner, Dean of the Kelley School of Business at the University of Indiana. "You're not ready to quit your job, but you have these opportunities and you know you need more, you know you have gaps and you have to fill those gaps."
She recently made these comments to one of three one-hour roundtables on online MBA programs, I had the pleasure of moderating at Kelley. And what about the results? "Our online students have an increase of about 29% of their average salary as they follow the program, "says Kesner." And 64% of our students received a promotion either during their program within six months of graduation. So there is evidence that they are benefiting a lot from this program and benefiting from it in their organizations. "

Because you do not have the opportunity to do a summer internship that helps a person make the transition into a new field, it is often badumed that an online MBA is not the ideal option for a career switchman. But Kelley is at the forefront of schools that are changing this mindset by using individualized career coaching, mentoring and experiential learning programs to replace this summer internship.
The school recently badigned four business development officers to four different regions of the country: Los Angeles, Atlanta, Boston and Bloomington, Indiana, for the Midwest. In the last four months alone, this team has generated more than 800 new job openings, many in companies that have never recruited students from the school.

Graduate career services during one of our panels together. & nbsp;& nbsp; "In theory, a Kelley Direct student could start a new job on February 1 or October 1. An online student is actually in the experienced rental market, which means we do not have need jobs starting in June, July and August.
"If I go to a company, such as Apple, and they tell me," Dude, we need someone now, we can not wait until June. " My team could say, "Well, we actually have a student population that could do it." In addition to some alums we can do some outreach. We have students who would be qualified for that. Now let us have this job offer in front of them, we will collect some resumes for you. "This has enhanced our ability to offer the customer experience and meet our students. where they are. "
This is just one of the ways an online MBA program proves itself. But it is important to make an informed decision before writing a check to a school.
