Is "father's father" just a beer belly dressed?

What is it that a "papa bod"?

As Father's Day approached, it seemed wise to investigate this strange phenomenon and determine if men with children were less fit than others.

Fortunately, New York Times discovered for us.

It turns out that fathers usually weigh about 10 pounds more than non-fathers of the same age.

The debate rages on whether men who have a little flesh are more attractive; We are of the opinion that men who are interested in childcare and cooking are really attractive, but that's probably another story.

The personal trainer, Nico Alfieri, sees a lot of body and is quite likeable.

And useful.

He compares Dad's appearance with the weight gain of "freshman 15" emerging in college.

This is a big change in life.

Alfieri is a coach in fitness and nutrition and works hard to make everything stress free for his clients, especially parents.

"Everything is geared to their abilities and goals," he says.

We talked to him last week about fathers and their characters.

How's it going?

Most of these men tell me that when their children were born, they did not take time on their own, their schedule was reserved for them, they became less and less a priority for themselves. As a parent, you are responsible for someone else. You no longer think of yourself, you are totally focused on your new child. Your schedule changes and this often leads to poor food choices. You eat when you have the opportunity and choose according to your convenience. This usually means prepared meals high in sugar, salt and fat. Or hit the drive-through. Then there is a lack of sleep, so there is no way to exercise. You do not have energy … and it's a regular routine. If you are a father who did not play sports before becoming a parent, you do not have good habits to start with. Whatever it is, all this manifests itself in a weight gain of about 20 pounds after the first two years.

Is this generation of dads more involved in the education of children?

Yes, guys are now changing diapers, babysitting. They want to be with their children. They want to be there for all the special moments … You can integrate work with your child – moms do it. There are many clbades for mom and baby, but not much for dads. I've trained a lot of new moms and they take the baby with them to workout. You can do body squats by holding the child. You can do abdominal exercises while holding your child. Guys have less support because we are supposed to have everything together. Men are not inclined to reach out, especially in this department. I mean, guys do not ask for directions. [Laughs] Women do.

How do you help get rid of daddy bod?

I help them plan, I help them stay responsible and I give them new ideas. And somehow, take off that stress. Everyone thinks that a workout should last about two hours, but it can take half an hour: they can be effective in their training and be effective in meal planning. Everything comes back to habits … Just rethink and understand what is a healthy diet and what is a healthy movement.

So, papa bod: good? Wrong?

I do not think it's a service to anyone. Guys can have a father without children. We all know what a father's father – a beer belly. And we do not want you to look like Homer Simpson! We are all struggling to meet our fitness and health goals. People want to maintain normal body fat and improve their cardiovascular fitness, have more energy and avoid stress. And look great. A new child, a new motivation to take care of you. You want to stay as long as you can for this child. We need a healthy culture. We must be kind to each other. This is where I find myself, with every man or woman who asks me for help. I treat them with kindness, as if they were family.
