JERUSALEM, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) – Israeli researchers have discovered 27 new molecules, which could help develop treatments for fatty liver diseases, obesity and wound healing, released Thursday by the University Hebrew Jerusalem.
The results were made possible by a new algorithm developed by the researchers. He selected 27 molecules with the highest therapeutic potential from a database of 1.56 million molecules.
To date, the selected molecules, which activate the PPAR-delta receptor protein (peroxisome-delta-activated receptor), are being evaluated in the pharmaceutical field for the treatment of obesity and fatty liver disease, the leading cause of liver cancer. .
This protein causes muscle cells to burn more fat and therefore has the potential to increase physical stamina and reduce height.
Thereafter, treatments will be tested to improve wound healing and prevent renal toxicity.
The researchers said that with such a large group of highly active molecules, there was a high probability of finding treatments for several common diseases.
According to Integra Holdings, a biotechnology company of the Hebrew University, 21 of the 27 molecules have potential for pharmaceutical success, particularly as a cure for fatty liver.
