The government has taken a giant step toward automating the issuance of building and construction permits to reduce the time and cost of doing business.

The move, which would be implemented with the help of a web-based application software, aims to reduce corruption, facilitate the conduct of business, ensure proper control of the construction and planning.

For starters, the application software funded by the Department of International Development is being tested by the Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) and the Metropolitan Assembly of Tema ( TMA) and will then be reproduced nationally.

A speech read on her behalf by Hajia Alima Mahama, Minister of Local Government and Rural Development, at a user training day on new software in Accra, said the initiative would reduce the current deadline of about 90 days at 30 days.

Training on the operation of the building permit software was provided to planners, surveyors, architects, real estate developers and the private sector to enable them to use it.

She said that the development and installation of the building permit software for AMA had actually started, with training and hardware in place to ensure that the application software is working effectively to achieve the desired result.

The Minister said that the success of this initiative would strengthen the country's position in the World Bank's ease of work by eliminating the human factor that often caused delays as well as errors in the calculation of applicable fees leading to increased revenues for the World Bank. MMDA.

She said that this would strengthen the work of state institutions such as the Territory Commission, Physical Planning, the Ghana National Fire Service, the Ghana National Police and the National Defense Agency. ;environment.

Hajia Mahama said the software would provide an electronic database of all building permit records.

"The integrated document management system means that all related documents, such as architectural and structural drawings, are stored with the application in the software," she said.

"This would give more transparency and visibility to all building permits and, in particular, reduce costs for the developer and the MMDA."
