The subject of lesbians, gays, bisexuals, transgender, queer and intersex, LGBTQ +; is making headlines again for obvious reasons.

A private member’s bill to criminalize all activities of the LGBTQ + fraternity, led by Ningo Prampram MP Sam George; sparked much discussion.

This is the subject’s “second coming” this year after it reached a crescendo earlier this year when activists opened a center in Accra, whose facility was quickly shut down by police.

One of the deputies behind the bill, Alhassan Sakibu Suhuyini, made a comment this weekend on pro-LGBTQ + people.

He observed that although they claim to be a vulnerable minority, they tend to be harsh in their communication with people who oppose their position.

The Tamale North MP wrote in a Facebook post: “I’ve read comments from people opposed to our PMB on LGBTQ + and it’s like they’re programmed to insult, threaten, despise and humiliate anyone / anything what they don’t agree with.

“Those who claim to be vulnerable / in the minority tend to be confrontational, condescending and optimistic in their communication.

“It doesn’t seem to me that they want to convince anyone with reasoned arguments, they just seem to want to intimidate, threaten and insult everyone into submitting.”

Over the weekend, Ningo Prampram MP Sam George was busy on social media defending the content of the bill that is expected to be tabled in Parliament.

Speaker of Parliament Alban Bagbin blessed the bill and said Ghanaians are united on the bill and that it will be passed as soon as possible.

The 36-page draft document is a private member’s bill entitled: “The Promotion of Appropriate Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values ​​Bill 2021”.

It is chaired by Ningo Prampram MP Sam George and seven (7) other MPs.

At present, it is in the drafting stage and will be tabled in the House and should subsequently be referred to the appropriate committee for consideration.

Sam George spent most of Saturday July 23 on social media defending the necessity of the bill which he says is a necessity to preserve the moral and cultural values ​​of Ghanaians in general.
