Cecilie Uttrup Ludwig summed up a captivating edition of La Course with some of her flair.

The Bigla Pro Cycling rider found himself in a small group of batters about 40 km from the race, but was trapped and had to fight for a podium finish on the line.

When Marianne Vos (CCC-Liv) decimated the group on the last climb to Pau, Uttrup kept his cool and sprinted to third place, his best race result.

After the scene, the 23-year-old said, "It's a beautiful sunny day to have fun.

"The race was pretty tough and there were a lot of tactical games.

"I tried to have ice in my stomach, as we say, keep it cool, then we knew that the last lap was going to be a mbadive sprint. In a situation like that, Marianne is a very good wheel. It was a fight until the last left turn and it was just fueling.

"It was such a good race [for me] and the team did wonders and we had two runners in the breakaway so we were always represented. "

Uttrup finished fourth at La Course last year, beating even better in 2019 with the women's peloton shot on the men's time trial laps for the 13th stage of the Tour de France.

Amanda Spratt (Mitchelton-Scott) was the host of the final. She launched a long-range solo attack that failed only in the last climb with 400 meters to go, while Marianne Vos dug a gap and rushed into the peloton to win.

Uttrup said: "I'm improving one place at a time, so in a few years I'll be on the top step.

"We had a lot of fun and it's very nice to finish with a podium for the team.

"Everyone wanted [Vos’s] wheel. She's just super strong. I got as close as possible and the girls helped me in the end to try to position myself. In total, I think we can be proud.

Britain's Pfeiffer Georgi also helped her Sunweb team take an impressive second place with Leah Kirchmann.

Georgi, 18, made her first race in The Race at her WorldTour debut. She had been badigned to work for the team at the start of the race.

She said Weekly cycling after the stage: "It was good, the team was really strong.

"With these two main climbs and then that little kick in the end, you always had to be on the ball and be in the front.

"I really enjoyed it, and with the crowd, I've never had anything like it before, so it's exciting."
