Italian goalkeeper Donnarumma joins PSG after AC Milan exit

July 14 (Reuters) – Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma has joined Paris St Germain on a five-year contract after leaving Serie A club AC Milan on a free transfer, France’s Ligue 1 reported on Wednesday.

Donnarumma, who was crowned player of the Euro 2020 tournament following Italy’s victory over England in the final, helped Milan finish second in Serie A last season to qualify for the Champions League for the first time since 2013-14.

In his six seasons in Serie A, the 22-year-old made 215 league appearances, while becoming the youngest goalkeeper in Italian national team history, aged 17 and 189 days , during a match against France, in September 2016.

“I am delighted to be a part of this huge club,” said Donnarumma. “I feel ready to take on this new challenge and continue to grow here. With Paris, I want to win as much as possible and please the supporters.”

Earlier on Wednesday, Donnarumma posted an emotional Instagram post to Milan supporters.

PSG have been busy in the transfer market this summer, having already brought veteran Spain defender Sergio Ramos on a free transfer following his departure from Real Madrid, as well as the capture of full-back Achraf Hakimi from Inter Milan.
