Home / News / What's coming up: Bigwig says the new Mazda3 hot hatch could be on the cards
Nearly six years have pbaded since the release of the last Mazda 3 MPS in the production line, without knowing if we would ever see another generation.
Powered by a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine, the hot hatch was hand-pulled and was a hit with almost everyone who got hold of it.
When the end of 2013 came to an end, it seemed as though the days of the MPS were over and Mazda has even confirmed it.
MZR enthusiasts can rejoice everywhere, as it looks like a supercharged version of the current Mazda3.
According to Autocar UK, Kota Beppu, Mazda program manager, explained that it was a very real possibility.
"I'm a guy from the car, so I want to drive a high performance Mazda3 myself … I'll do my best," he said. Although the project was not formally signed, Beppu revealed that most countries showed a strong interest.
Some transmission possibilities have been considered, but the US Mazda's 2.5-liter turbocharged engine will be the most likely choice. Asked about the possibility of a hybrid transmission, Beppu simply stated: "In general, we would use the engine to get more performance."
Historically, the MPS was exclusively front-wheel drive, but with the torque of 420 Nm of the 2.5, an AWD transmission is a very real possibility. "The Mazda3 is a light vehicle, so if there is too much power … and we keep it as front-wheel drive, there is a couple-control phenomenon," Beppu added.
The only subject that Beppu has not addressed is the transmission, but since both generations of MPS are delivered exclusively in manual (and that the new Mazda3 comes with a manual in some markets), we hope that the same result will occur. .
Although this is part of the "Hot Hatch" category, Beppu explained that the focus was on comfort and daily use of the road, "he must be responsible and friendly … more friendly than ever" 39, a Golf GTI. "
Although this car is still an idea, we are sure that the whole world will welcome it with open arms.
