The kidnapped girls
Families of three girls suspected of being abducted in Takoradi issued a weeklong ultimatum to the police to reunite with their daughters.
Their ultimatum follows the allegations of one of the main suspects, Samuel Oudotek Wills, that he was helped by a police officer during his cell escape last December.
"It's almost three months, where is my sister? Whether she is alive or not, we know nothing. We're joking with this guy [key suspect]… What's going on in Ghana here? Seriously, we do not understand, "said Rebecca Quayson, a sister of one of the missing girls, Ruth Love Quayson.
The main culprit of cases of alleged kidnappings occurred in Takoradi, the capital of the Western Region, revealed on Monday in court that a police investigator had helped him to Escape from custody.
The police believe they are responsible for three kidnappings in the metropolis of Sekondi-Takoradi, reported from October to December 2018.
Samuel Oudotek Wills said Monday in court that he did not know the name of this officer but that he could identify him.
In addition to this officer, the suspect said that a Kwesi had helped him use oil, which had allowed him to cut the metal bars used to barricade the cell's windows.
Mr. Wills indicated, however, that he was not aware of the location of the said Kwesi and asked the court to locate him for a period of time.
The case was postponed until February 18, 2019.
Wills, a Nigerian national, is currently in Accra to help the police investigate the fate of the three missing women: Priscilla Mantebea Koranchie, Priscilla Blessing Bentum and Ruth Love Quayson.
After Monday's hearing, Rebecca Quayson said the police were not doing enough.
"If we do not hear anything before the end of the week, we will do something serious … because we can not stand it anymore. It's like they're joking with us, "she said.
Getting closer to the kidnappers
The chairman of the Parliament's Defense and Interior Committee defended the police treatment of the abduction of three girls in Takoradi, insisting they are doing their best.
Seth Acheampong said that they were about to help find the missing girls and reunite them with their families.
"The ultimate goal is that they track down the leads they get, we need to understand and appreciate the standard operating procedures of investigations," he told Joy News last month.
According to him, it is not fair that the police tell the public what they have in mind, which would jeopardize the investigation and alert the culprits.
