Spio Garbrah Message Dr. Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, aspiring to the presidency of the National Democratic Congress

Mr Ekwow Spio Garbrah once again failed in his attempt to lead the National Democratic Congress (NEC) in a presidential election.

In Saturday's NDC Flagship Contest, delegates overwhelmingly supported former president John Dramani Mahama as the 2020 election choice, which goes against the campaign slogan of Spio-Garbrah.

For the delegates, Mr Mahama's 95% approval makes it clear that this was not yet the case with Spio-Garbrah.

Mr. Spio-Garbrah had adopted the slogan "What time is it, it's Spio Garbrah's time."

Given his stature at the NDC, he was supposed to give Mr. Mahama firm opposition, campaigning on the party's philosophy needing a new face to run the race.

But it seems that he will have to wait, because the delegates overwhelmingly approved his former subordinate become boss.

Mr. Mahama was Deputy Minister of Communications when Mr. Spio-Garbrah was Minister of Communications under Rawlings (1997-2001).

Mr. Mahama became President and appointed Spio-Garbrah as Minister of Commerce and Industry.

Spio-Garbrah, fifth in the seventh round, acknowledged his defeat on Saturday night even before the Electoral Commission declared the results of the poll and congratulated Mr. Mahama for his victory.
