On January 9, Alain Lobognan had tweeted that the public prosecutor had ordered the arrest of a colleague.

But the prosecutor said that was not the case and that the tweet provoked violent demonstrations and clashes.

Mr. Lobognan, on a hunger strike for 10 days, believes that the case has a political motivation.

His lawyer, Affoussiata Bamba Lamine, said that the deputy – who had been arrested on January 15 – intended to appeal the verdict.
