Armando Izzo's header in the first half proved effective enough for Torino to beat Inter 1-0 against Stadio Olimpico in cold Serie A on Sunday night.
Lautaro Martinez and Mauro Icardi both started in attack for Inter and it was the first who had the first chance of the match and should have opened the scoring, but his effort at close range was wide.
Toro took a surprise lead thanks to an unlikely source in Armando Izzo. The defender was the best on a corner and his head, loop, was found in the corner furthest.
The second half was a little more hectic than the first half, but the chances of winning remained clear, with neither goalkeeper being too tested.
Matteo Politano made a difference after his arrival but never had the expected impact.
The biggest contribution of former striker Sbaduolo was to be trapped in a red card, to the great fury of Luciano Spalletti and Icardi.
Spalletti slides
In a sign of excessive respect towards Torino, Inter has exceptionally lined up in a 3-5-2 while Luciano Spalletti has decided to reflect Walter Mazzarri's club and they have never seemed quite comfortable.
Dalbert and Danilo D'Ambrosio were not as involved as the coach expected and despite the fact that three players – Marcelo Brozovic, Matias Vecino and Joao Mario – are in the middle of the field, the match was rather open within the first 45 minutes.
After ten minutes of play in the second half, Spalletti acknowledged his mistake and removed Miranda from Radja Nainggolan, then moving on to a four-man defense and leaving the Belgian with Lautaro behind Icardi.
The walks of Toro
Inter struggled to find Andrea Belotti and Simone Zaza because they never stopped, rarely staying in the same part of the field.
Belotti dropped deeply and moved widely. Wherever he went, he trained a Nerazzurri defender with him or, if not, found a huge amount of space.
The Granata showed a fluidity in their form and sometimes, it seemed that Il Gallo was a left winger in the last three places behind Zaza, but he was his partner in a two-part attack just moments later.
Their move left the Inter seeming lost and Biscione's bottom line was never allowed to feel comfortable knowing where they were.
