The Joint Admissions and Enrollment Board suspended two of its employees and banned two applicants from participating in its processes for violating precautionary measures to mitigate the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the council’s weekly bulletin posted on the JAMB website on Monday, “their suspension follows a surprise visit by the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Enrollment Council, Professor Is-haq Oloyede, to the Professional Testing Center.”
He said that “the four people broke protocols by refusing to wear protective masks provided to curb the spread of the virus.”
The council said it had issued a series of advisories with explicit instructions on the need to adhere to existing protocols.
“These notices were aimed not only at mitigating the risk of contagion for staff, but also at protecting the lives of their colleagues,” he added.
The Council, in a statement, said that “the suspension has become necessary to send the right signal to all staff and customers that it will not tolerate any act that puts people at unnecessary risk.
“The punitive action also underscored the seriousness with which the Board of Directors views adherence to the COVID-19 protocols.”
The statement added that “affected staff would face the board’s discipline committee. In addition, the head of the office under whose supervision the staff worked would also be questioned for negligence and dereliction of duty for lack of adequate supervision of the staff concerned.
“All staff nationwide wanting the Council not to tolerate any violation of existing COVID-19 protocols and that these screening officers would also be held accountable for non-compliance and non-compliance with staff who circumvent established rules and regulations.
“All of the measures in place to protect staff from unnecessary exposure to the virus are all user-friendly and wonder why anyone would want to expose themselves and others to the virus.”
He also directed all directors, state coordinators and heads of unit to ensure strict compliance of staff and clients.
