James Milner hits "shameful" attack by Joris Gnagnon who injured Yasser Larouci of Liverpool

James Milner defeated the "shameful" attack of Joris Gnagnon who ended Ybader Larouci's early night in the 2-1 defeat in Sevilla on Sunday night.

The Reds recorded their second consecutive loss in their three-game tour of the United States, but the result was overshadowed by a horrific incident that pitted the man from Sevilla Gnagnon to Larouci, striker for the Reds .

The free kick earned him a red card and saw Larouci, 18, leave the field on a stretcher in the second half.

Virgil van Dijk, angry, immediately faced Gnagnon full-time and Milner criticized the shocking tackle that followed a tumultuous affair at Fenway Park.

"It was too much, I thought it was a scandalous tackle," he told LFCTV full-time.

"We know it's only a friendly match, but I mean, you do not see a lot of red cards in friendly matches, is not it."

"Their guy said it was up to the referee and that it was a tackle and a foul, but it's very disappointing. [responded] in the right direction.

"It's a difficult task for the referee because you do not want to use a lot of red cards in friendlies and that's a rare thing to see."

"It's not easy to get your hands on the game, you do not usually see too many attacks [like Gnagnon’s] but it's really a shame. "

The veteran midfielder is optimistic about the defeat of the champions of Europe. He believes that the setbacks of the pre-season will prevent the complacency that prevails when the match begins next month.

"It can be a good thing," he added. "Obviously, knowing success means that it's sometimes easy to be complacent.

"I'm not saying that we're like that, but we had a lot of young players in the team and we found out how to play with each other.

"We know how high our standards are, but we're still in the early stages, it's all in the bank and it's going to be a kid's game when we have to play one game a week early."
