A former soldier in Slovakia confessed to the double murder of investigative journalist Jan Kuciak and his fiancée last year, Slovak media reports.
Miroslav Marcek and three other people – all detained – were indicted for the killings, which caused an uproar and brought about a political change in Slovakia.
Kuciak and Martina Kusnirova, both 27, were shot dead in February 2018.
Prosecutors accused a Slovak businessman, Marian Kocner, of ordering Kuciak 's badbadination.
The journalist and his fiancée were shot dead at their home in Velka Maca, a village 65 km east of the capital Bratislava.
Kuciak had investigated alleged links between businessmen, Slovak politicians and the infamous Italian "mafia Ndrangheta", including irregularities in EU agricultural subsidies.
Public anger drove anti-corruption lawyer Zuzana Caputova to win the Slovak presidential election last month.
The tvnoviny.sk news site indicates that Mr Marcek confessed to having shot the couple and that he would have been the driver of the other suspects.
Police divers would search a river for weapons or other evidence.
